Places to Ice Skate in Utah
We aren’t amazing ice skaters in our family, but I think everyone should try it, especially the kids. I hadn’t been ice skating in 25 years, but recently we did it as a family. It took me about 30 minutes to get my balance, and then I was fine. But had I not skated in my youth, I don’t think I could have done it now.
So I’m a big believer in getting kids out and about so they can try new things, such as ice skating. And Utah, fortunately, has a number of places–indoor and outdoor–for you to try this fun sport, available year-round at some of our rinks.
As always, we arrange venues north to south by county, making it easy for you to find something close to home or decide if you want to take a little drive.
NOTE: Make sure you reserve your spot online. Don’t just show up, unless noted below. Also, click on the links below for hours and pricing. We do this so you have the most current information. DURING COVID, FACEMASKS ARE REQUIRED.
DID WE MISS ANYONE? Shoot us an email or comment on this post. We’ll add any venue that has a website or Facebook link.

South Davis Recreation Center
550 N 200 W, Bountiful. This is our local indoor rink, and it’s open year-round. CLICK HERE. Rent granny walkers (I have no idea what they’re called) for just a few dollars. We were glad we had them since my kids had never been on ice. I admit to hanging on to my kids with these walkers until I could find my balance and some confidence on the ice.
A few years ago, we tried ice skating group lessons at this rec center. It wasn’t a good experience for us–too many little kids with just one instructor per age group. My youngest sat on the ice most of the time. But when we went as a family recently, he did just fine. I think one-on-one lessons would be great here, but the group lessons were chaos.
Don’t forget you can rent a skating helper. It makes the experience so much better for some, especially the kids.
